Product Description Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 10/30/2007 Rating: Pg
Amazon.com After they first worked together on the 1966 film This Property Is Condemned, director Sydney Pollack and Robert Redford continued their long-lasting collaboration with this 1972 drama set during the mid-1800s, about one man's rugged effort to shed the burden of civilization and learn to survive in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. Will Geer is perfectly cast as the seasoned trapper who teaches Jeremiah Johnson (Redford) how to survive against harsh winters, close encounters with grizzly bears, and hostile Crow Indians. In the course of his adventure, Johnson marries the daughter of a Flathead Indian chief, forms a makeshift family, and ultimately assumes a mythic place in Rocky Mountain folklore. Shot entirely on location in Utah, the film boasts an abundance of breathtaking widescreen scenery, and the story (despite a PG rating) doesn't flinch from the brutality of the wilderness. --Jeff Shannon

Happy with purchase! June 7, 2010 Billy J. Barron The DVD was received in a timely manner and in the condition stated. I love this movie! : )
Redford's Jeremiah May 23, 2010 C. Rocklein I wasn't sure I'd like the movie. Redford himself has been hit or miss with me, and I was afraid he'd be too pretty for the part, but he works his way into it and finally plays the character well. His fellow actors bring a lot for him to work off of as well. The movie brings a kind of architypical story to life with lots of little details that lend authenticity. The French speaking Flathead chief and his daughter (Jeremiah's later wife) play with real understated grandeur. There are humourous moments balancing out the harshness. The boy without saying a word the whole movie speaks volumes. Great picture. See it. It's worth having as well, especially for the price. They don't make movies like this anymore. A 1972 gem.
Good history lesson May 22, 2010 Dragon 60 (Tulsa, OK) Enjoyed very much. Lots of history presented in an entertaining way. Great scenic pictures.
An excellent story. May 4, 2010 S. Surrey I love good stories. This movie kept to one story without being politically correct. It dealt with history as it was without some "Message" being pushed by agenda. One of the few Robert Redford movies to do so.
